Trespass Letter Program

The La Habra Police Department has a Trespass Letter Program that assists property and business owners with trespassers.  A Trespass Letter Form can be submitted to the police department which authorizes officers to enforce trespassing laws when the owner, the owner’s agent or person in lawful possession of the property is absent from the property.

A Trespass Letter Form can be submitted to the La Habra Police Department under the following circumstances:

  • The property is closed to the public and is posted as being closed.
  • The property owner, agent, or person in lawful possession of the property is absent from the property during a specified time period.
  • During a specified time period when there is a fire hazard on the property

The letter authorizes the police to enter the listed property, order trespassers to leave the property, and to arrest the trespassers if the officer finds probable cause of a trespassing violation.

If the property is closed to the public, the property MUST have signs posted alerting the public that the property/business is closed.
