Dennis McCreary was hired as the City of La Habra’s Chief Building Official in February 2014. Dennis started his career as a Plans Examiner with the City of Tempe, Arizona, and served as Assistant Building Official with the City of Ontario and City of Tustin. He worked for the International Code Council/International Conference of Building Officials for many years developing model codes and standards used in the design, build and compliance process to construct safe, sustainable, affordable and resilient structures. Dennis is also a professional engineer and is a member of International Code Council, National Fire Protection Association, American Concrete Institute, Structural Engineer Association of Southern California, and International Association of Electrical Inspectors and has been active in many professional organizations. He has served on many committees throughout his career including chairing building code committees. Dennis has done extensive lecturing and presented seminars in almost every state in the Union. In addition, the United States government sent Dennis to Saudi Arabia to assist their government in developing new building code regulations. Dennis strongly believes in assisting and mentoring the stakeholders/community through the code permit process to insure the structures we live, work and play in are safe. When not at work, Dennis enjoys his hobbies, playing a little golf and occasionally watching a documentary or two on Netflix.
