Free Classes & Activities for Seniors

Monday, 12:30 to 2:20 p.m.: Creative Arts for Older Adults Class

This class covers a variety of creative arts, including painting, pastels, drawing and even sculpting. All levels are welcome!

Monday & Wednesday, 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.: Staying Mentally Sharp

Join us for this exciting new class, where students will use the fun, electronic-based Brain HQ exercises that are specifically designed by Posit Science. Along with lecture and discussion, students in this class will sharpen their sense, resulting in a noticeable impact on memory, thinking and focus! Exercising the brain is key to healthy and successful aging. No computer skills necessary.

Tuesday, 6:00 to 7:50 p.m.: Quilting for Older Adults

This class offers the essentials of quilting for older adult students, which includes fabric selection, cutting and sewing methods, along with the history and vocabulary of the craft. Special techniques are covered, such as patchwork, applique, hand and machine methods, and finishing techniques.

Wednesday, 8:30 to 11:30 a.m.: Wednesday a.m. Volunteer Stitchers

This group meets in the Oeste Room from to make items for Children's Hospital, local convalescent hospitals and other non-profits. Participants may sew, knit or crochet items, and new members are welcome to drop in and join the group and learn these skills.

Wednesday, 12:00 to 2:00 p.m.: Huff 'n' Puffs

The Huff 'n' Puff dancers perform at local venues. They practice once a week and perform a variety of dance styles in costumes of their own design. If you are interested in joining this group, please contact the Community Center at 562-383-4200.

Thursday, 9:15 to 9:45 a.m.: Tai Chi for Older Adults

This low impact Tai Chi class will start with a Daoist form of Chi Gung (new energy work) called 8 Treasures. Benefits include a reduction of stress and physical discomforts. Come try this ancient form. All levels of experience are welcome.

Two Thursdays per Month, 1:00 p.m.: Movie Days

Seniors are invited to enjoy a free movie, along with popcorn and other snacks. Movies are held twice a month on Thursdays. Please pre-register if you plan to attend sot hat we can be sure to have enough refreshments for all.
